A combination of  four herbs which we have found to be really helpful in promoting a restful  sleep. For some it can be getting to sleep that is problematic and for others it can be waking in the early hours of the morning or several times during the night. We have found that these herbs can help encourage falling to sleep, but also reduce night time waking and help return to sleep if waking does occur.

If you need further support or advice, or feel you would benefit from an individually blended herbal tincture we offer consultations, either in person or online. Please visit  www.the-herbal-clinic.co.uk  for more details

Our ingredients and why we chose them:

  • Tilea europea (Limeflower)* - a wonderfully scented flower gathered from the lime tree. It helps reduce nervous over-activity, gently soothes and calms tension held in the muscles.
  • Scuttelaria laterifolia (Skullcap)* - a herb that relaxes the nervous system. It can be used to promote sleep, as well as in the treatment of stress, anxiety and pain.
  • Eschscholtzia californica (Californian Poppy)* - this has a long history of use to alleviate insomnia and stress, but is also frequently used by herbalists to treat certain forms of migraine, digestive spasms, menstrual cramps and neuralgia.
  • Humulus lupulus (Hops)* - this herb is well known for its use in beer making. It has a sedative effect, as well as being balancing and strengthening to the nervous system.  It has a bitter taste and helps improve digestive function . It can be especially helpful if insomnia is related to digestive issues. Hops contain plant oestrogens so is best avoided by people taking oestrogen blocking medication.
  • Ethanol - A herbal tincture contains ethanol. It is used as a highly effective means to extract the medicinal chemicals from the fresh plants and also  preserves the remedy for several years. Adding the tincture to hot water and leaving for a few minutes helps a lot of the alcohol to evaporate.
  • Water
