Our ingredients and why we chose them:
Elderberry (Sambucus nigra)* - Elderberry is high in anti-oxidants and is used by herbalists as an antiviral with particular relevance to coughs, colds and flu.
Wild Cherry Bark (Prunus serotina)* - Wild cherry bark is antispasmodic, astringent and expectorant. It is used to ease spasmodic dry coughs and to help reduce congestion and clear mucous.
Hyssopus officinalis(Hyssop)* - Hyssop is used by herbalists to help clear infections in the lungs. It is also an expectorant, so helps encourage the release of phlegm. Hyssop is often used with chest infections and influenza as well as with wheezy asthmatic symptoms.
Verbascum thaspus (Mullein)* - Mullein is a demulcent - this means that it has a wonderful soothing quality and helps with dryness, inflammation, irritation and congestion in the lungs.
Lobelia inflata (Lobelia)* A herb prescribed by herbalists at low doses to help reduce spasmodic coughs and expel congested mucous. It is also a relaxant and can help with the sense of anxiety and restlessness that often accompany a cough.
Raw Honey Honey is well known for its antimicrobial properties which are most active in high quality, raw and unrefined honey. It also soothes irritating, spasmodic coughs, whilst serving as an effective and very palatable natural preservative.
Vegetable Glycerine Helps soothe and moisten which is especially beneficial with dry irritating coughs. This is also a natural preservative.
Ethanol - herbal tinctures contain ethanol. This is used as a highly effective means to extract the medicinal chemicals from the fresh plants and also preserves the remedy for several years. Adding the tincture to hot water and leaving for a few minutes helps a lot of the alcohol to evaporate.
